JROTC
The Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (JROTC) program at Tomah High School is a dynamic, student-centered leadership program designed to develop character, citizenship, and responsibility in young people. As part of the national JROTC mission, the program emphasizes leadership education, personal growth, and service to community, preparing students for success in school and beyond.
At Tomah High School, the JROTC program—known as the Timberwolves Battalion—is a growing, cadet-led organization where students take on meaningful leadership roles and actively shape the program’s direction. Through classroom instruction, hands-on activities, and team-based experiences, cadets build confidence, communication skills, and a strong sense of accountability. The program is guided by retired military instructors who provide mentorship while reinforcing academic and behavioral expectations aligned with school values.
A key component of the Tomah JROTC experience is its focus on real-world application of leadership through service-learning projects and community engagement. Cadets have partnered with local organizations to complete projects such as improving community spaces, demonstrating teamwork, problem-solving, and civic responsibility in action. These experiences help students connect classroom learning to meaningful contributions within the Tomah community.
The program also provides structured opportunities for recognition and advancement through a cadet rank and promotion system. Events such as promotion ceremonies celebrate student achievement and leadership growth, reinforcing the program’s commitment to developing future leaders. In addition, JROTC cadets play an important role in school and community events, including organizing and participating in ceremonies like Veterans Day programs that honor service and foster community pride.
More than just a class, JROTC at Tomah High School is a leadership journey—one that empowers students to become confident individuals, engaged citizens, and leaders prepared to make a positive impact in their communities and beyond.
